For parents of potential music student students, or adult beginners:
The "Information & Advice" pages of this website should provide lots of useful information. This site is specifically geared toward guitar instruction, but many of the recommendations apply to all instruments.
The decision to begin learning a musical instrument should not be made lightly. There are obvious financial concerns (the cost of renting or buying an instrument, lessons, books, and accessories, etc). There is also uncertainty about most youngsters' willingness to practice, and/or the ability of adult students to find ample time. It's easy to see why some folks hesitate to get involved in music. Others have already decided to give it a go, but questions may remain: How old should a student be to start music lessons? How much practice is required? How do I select an instrument? These and other concerns are addressed here. Hopefully, you'll be a better educated consumer after considering some of the info and advice presented on this website. Ultimately, if you decide to study the guitar, (especially if you have found the tone and content of this website helpful), I hope you'll use Sensible Guitar as your method book to assist you on your journey.

This website is a companion to the book Sensible Guitar, an instructional method book for all guitar students. Most of the site is dedicated to providing supplamental material for students and teachers using the book. However, the "Info & Advice" pages are offered as a service to potential students (or, more exactly, the parents of young students). There is info & advice for teachers, too. All of the material is provided by the book's author and publisher, Chris Cass, a long-time music educator who teaches guitar in southern Connecticut.
